The Business Value of GS1-Compliant Logistics

  • GS1 Compliance Support
    • GTIN and SSCC Support: CompuTec WMS supports Global Trade Item Numbers and Serial Shipping Container Codes, enabling standardized identification of items and logistics units in line with GS1 requirements.
    • GS1 Barcode Scanning: CompuTec WMS runs on GS1 barcode scanners and a range of other devices supporting standardized barcode formats used across global supply chains.
    • GS1-Compliant Labels: CompuTec Labels can generate GS1-compliant shipping and logistics labels, pulling real-time batch, serial, and item data to ensure label content meets trading partner requirements.
  • Inventory Accuracy and Visibility
    • Real-Time Transaction Recording: Every warehouse movement is recorded directly in SAP Business One at the point of activity, keeping stock records current without manual data entry.
    • Batch and Serial Tracking: Every inbound, outbound, and internal movement records batch and serial number data, giving a complete and traceable picture of stock across the operation.
    • Weights That Match Reality: Actual weights are captured at the point of transaction for variable weight items, so stock valuation and customer billing reflect the weight received or shipped, not a nominal one.
  • Consistent and Accurate Labeling
    • Rule-Based Label Printing: Printing rules trigger the correct label format automatically based on criteria such as item, business partner, warehouse, or document type, removing manual label selection from the process.
    • Template Logic for Edge Cases: Where the standard criteria cannot express a rule, a stored procedure ships with CompuTec Labels to handle it.
    • Live Data on Every Label: Labels pull real-time data from SAP Business One, CompuTec ProcessForce, and CompuTec WMS, including batch numbers, expiry dates, weights, and serial numbers, so label content always reflects current production and inventory data.
  • Connectivity Across the Operation
    • Out-of-the-Box Integration: CompuTec solutions are integrated with each other and with SAP Business One out of the box, with no third-party middleware or additional integration project required.
    • Shared Data Environment: All products operate within the same SAP Business One environment, so data recorded in one part of the operation is immediately visible across the rest.
    • Reduced Implementation Complexity: Choosing CompuTec solutions that are designed to work together reduces the time, cost, and risk associated with connecting separate warehouse, manufacturing, and labeling systems.

GS1 Standards & Storage Units

Read GS1 barcodes and manage pallets and logistics containers as single trackable entities with full support for SSCC codes.

CompuTec WMS | Storage Unit Handling
  • Storage Units

Multiple items or batches can be grouped into a Storage Unit, representing a pallet or other logistics container, and handled as a single entity across all warehouse transactions, moved or shipped with a single scan.

  • SSCC Numbers

Each Storage Unit is assigned a Serial Shipping Container Code, supporting standardized pallet identification and tracking in line with GS1 logistics requirements.

  • Storage Unit Operations

Storage Units can be created, disassembled, transferred, picked, packed, and shipped, with all movements recorded against the unit and its contents in SAP Business One.

  • GS1 Barcode Compatibility

CompuTec WMS is built to run on GS1 barcode scanners, supporting standardized barcode formats used across global supply chains and retail environments.

  • Multi-Block Barcodes

A single barcode can carry item, batch, quantity, and User-Defined Field data together, so one scan completes several fields at once during receipt, transfer, or picking.

  • Custom Decoders

Scanning rules can be defined per workflow, so the barcode formats already in use across your operation are recognized and parsed correctly.

Advantages for Your Industry

Catch weight at receipt, FEFO-based dispatch, customer-specific labeling. How you handle and label goods depends on your industry.

Frequently Asked Questions

What GS1 capabilities does CompuTec WMS support?

CompuTec WMS is built to run on GS1 barcode scanners and supports Global Trade Item Numbers (GTIN) and Serial Shipping Container Codes (SSCC). Storage Units can be assigned SSCC numbers, supporting standardized pallet identification and tracking in line with GS1 logistics requirements. A single barcode can also carry several data blocks at once, such as item, batch, and quantity, so one scan completes multiple fields during receipt, transfer, or picking.

What is a Storage Unit in CompuTec WMS?

A Storage Unit is a group of items that can be treated as a single entity during warehouse operations, typically representing a pallet or other logistics container. Storage Units can be assigned SSCC numbers and handled across all CompuTec WMS transaction types, with all movements recorded against the unit and its contents in SAP Business One.

Does CompuTec WMS support FIFO, FEFO, and FMFO?

Yes. Batch selection during picking follows configurable queue rules: First In First Out, First Expiry First Out, or First Manufactured First Out. When CompuTec ProcessForce is also installed, queue settings follow its configuration, including CompuTec ProcessForce-specific expiry time fields for more precise queue management.

How does CompuTec WMS handle variable weight items?

CompuTec WMS includes Catch Weight Management, which allows actual weights to be captured at the point of transaction using integrated weighing scales. This supports accurate inventory valuation and billing for items where unit weights vary, such as fresh produce or meat.

How does CompuTec Labels support GS1-compliant logistics?

CompuTec Labels generates GS1-compliant shipping and logistics labels by pulling real-time data from SAP Business One, CompuTec ProcessForce, and CompuTec WMS. Printing rules trigger the correct label format automatically based on criteria such as item, business partner, warehouse, or document type, with print jobs routed to the correct printer at the relevant workstation.

Can labels be customized by item, business partner, or warehouse?

Yes. Printing rules are defined by what is being handled (item, item group, unit of measure), who is involved (business partner or partner type, employee, user), where it happens (warehouse, branch), and which document triggered it (document type, transaction). Criteria you leave open are simply ignored, so a rule can be as broad or as specific as you need. A stored procedure is available for anything the criteria cannot express, but in practice they are sufficient.

How do CompuTec WMS and CompuTec ProcessForce work together for logistics?

When both products are installed, CompuTec WMS provides dedicated Pick Order and Pick Receipt transactions that issue and receive stock directly against Manufacturing Orders, with full traceability. Standard SAP Business One production issue and receipt transactions can still be made available alongside them if requested. Raw materials are issued and finished goods are receipted using barcode scanners, with batch data recorded at every step and feeding into CompuTec ProcessForce traceability records.

Does CompuTec WMS work without CompuTec ProcessForce?

Yes. CompuTec WMS operates fully as a standalone warehouse management solution integrated with SAP Business One. When CompuTec ProcessForce is also installed, additional manufacturing-specific transactions become available and batch queue management follows CompuTec ProcessForce settings.

Do all CompuTec products integrate with each other out of the box?

Yes. CompuTec WMS, CompuTec Labels, CompuTec ProcessForce, and CompuTec PDC are integrated with each other and with SAP Business One out of the box. No third-party middleware or additional integration project is required to connect them.

Can you capture photos using the scanning device?

Yes, if the barcode scanner supports a camera function, then CompuTec WMS will record the photo.
