Plant Maintenance
CompuTec ProcessForce manages equipment maintenance inside SAP Business One, from asset hierarchies and inspection points to Maintenance Orders triggered by a schedule or a meter reading, with the parts, tools, and labor each job needs.
- Corrective, Planned & Preventive Maintenance
- Meter-Based Schedules
- Parts, Tools & Trades
- Mobile Data Entry

Keep equipment running and production on track
Unplanned breakdowns cost more than the repair itself, in lost output and the work that gets rescheduled around them. CompuTec ProcessForce lets teams define preventive schedules based on time or actual equipment usage, assign maintenance work clearly, and build a complete digital history of every asset, giving managers the visibility they need to make informed decisions about equipment and resources.

The Business Value of Preventive Plant Maintenance
Reduced Unplanned Downtime
- Maintenance Planned in Advance: Preventive maintenance schedules are defined per asset, with Maintenance Orders generated automatically based on time intervals or meter readings.
- Meter-Based Triggers: Maintenance actions are triggered by actual equipment usage data rather than fixed calendars alone, so maintenance happens when it is needed.
- Recurring Failures Identified: Orders close against structured problem, cause, and failure codes, so the same fault appearing across assets can be found and fixed at source.
Controlled Maintenance Costs
- Planned vs. Reactive Maintenance: Structured preventive maintenance reduces the frequency and cost of unplanned breakdowns, which are typically more expensive to resolve.
- Parts and Labor Planned per Job: Each order lists the spare parts it needs with quantities and warehouse, the tools it depends on, and the trades it calls for with their hourly rates, so the cost of a job is known before it starts.
- Maintenance History: A complete record of all maintenance activities per asset gives managers the data to evaluate maintenance spend and identify patterns over time.
Maintenance Accountability
- Assigned Maintenance Orders: Maintenance Orders are assigned to specific employees, creating clear ownership of each maintenance task.
- Task and Checklist Tracking: Each Maintenance Order includes tasks and checkpoints that must be completed and signed off, providing a structured record of what was done.
- Findings and Attachments: Maintenance findings, meter readings, and supporting documents or photographs can be recorded against each Maintenance Order.
Production and Compliance Records
- Digital Maintenance Records: All maintenance activities are recorded digitally within SAP Business One, replacing paper-based maintenance logs with structured, searchable records.
- Inspection Results: Inspection point results are recorded and verifiable, supporting documentation requirements in regulated manufacturing environments.
- Equipment History: The complete maintenance history of every asset is accessible at any time, supporting audits and equipment certification reviews.

Maintainable Items
Define and structure your physical assets as Maintainable Items within CompuTec ProcessForce, creating a digital representation of your production equipment.
CompuTec ProcessForce | Maintainable Item Graph
Hierarchical Asset Structure
Assets are organized hierarchically as locations, systems, positions, and assets, allowing equipment to be represented accurately.
Asset Classification
Maintainable Items are assigned classes and categories for grouping and reporting, making it straightforward to manage large numbers of assets.
Asset Status Tracking
Each Maintainable Item has a defined status, from purchased through installed to withdrawn, giving a clear picture of the current state of every asset.
Linked to Resources, Items, and Fixed Assets
A Maintainable Item can stand alone or link to an existing resource, inventory item, or fixed asset, so maintenance connects to the equipment production actually schedules against and to the asset register in finance.
Inspection Points and Aspects
Specific parts of an asset that require regular inspection are defined as inspection points, with measurable aspects assigned to each point to structure the inspection process. Preventive, critical, and extreme limits either side of a nominal value can each trigger a Maintenance Order when a reading crosses them.
Maintainable Item Graph
An interactive graph shows the relationships between Maintainable Items, giving a visual overview of how assets are connected within the production environment, alongside the MIs Structure Report, which shows the same hierarchy in list form.

Advantages for Your Industry
Pressure vessels, continuous lines, handling fleets. What you need maintenance to protect depends on your industry.
Interested in seeing how CompuTec ProcessForce could support your maintenance team?
What a maintenance program needs depends on the equipment behind it: fixed service intervals for a few critical machines, or metered assets and statutory inspections across a whole plant. Frequently Asked Questions
What is Plant Maintenance in CompuTec ProcessForce?
Plant Maintenance in CompuTec ProcessForce allows manufacturers to define, plan, and record equipment maintenance within SAP Business One. Physical assets are represented as Maintainable Items with hierarchical structures, inspection points, and maintenance schedules. Maintenance Orders cover corrective and breakdown work, planned and preventive schedules, and setup or changeover requests.
What is a Maintainable Item?
A Maintainable Item (MI) is a digital representation of a physical asset, such as a machine, tool, or piece of equipment, within CompuTec ProcessForce. MIs are organized hierarchically as locations, systems, positions, and assets, and can be assigned classes, categories, inspection points, and maintenance schedules.
Can a Maintainable Item be linked to a production resource or fixed asset?
Yes. A Maintainable Item can stand alone, or link to an existing resource, inventory item, or fixed asset. Linking it to a resource connects maintenance to the equipment production is scheduled against, and linking it to a fixed asset ties the same equipment to the asset register in finance, so maintenance is not managed separately from the rest of the business.
How does planned maintenance work in CompuTec ProcessForce?
Planned maintenance schedules are defined per Maintainable Item and trigger Maintenance Orders at fixed or variable time intervals. A fixed schedule calculates the next trigger from a set interval; a variable schedule bases it on the value recorded at the last maintenance closure. When a trigger is reached, Maintenance Orders can be generated automatically, ensuring routine maintenance is carried out consistently.
What is preventive maintenance in CompuTec ProcessForce?
Preventive maintenance means servicing equipment before it fails rather than reacting after it does. CompuTec ProcessForce supports both ways of deciding when that happens: a time interval, or a meter reading that reflects actual usage or wear. Either trigger can generate the Maintenance Order automatically, so the work is scheduled rather than remembered.
What is meter-based maintenance?
Meter-based maintenance triggers Maintenance Orders from recorded equipment data such as operating hours, production cycles, or physical measurements like belt thickness. CompuTec ProcessForce records readings from the counters on the equipment itself, and also maintains effective meters that track cumulative usage independently, so resetting or replacing a counter does not lose an asset's running total. Effective meter readings can be inherited down the asset hierarchy, and reading history is available for both.
Can spare parts and labor be planned on a Maintenance Order?
Yes. Each Maintenance Order carries a Material List of the spare parts and consumables it needs, with quantities, unit of measure, issue type, and the warehouse they are drawn from, and reusable templates cover jobs that always need the same parts. Tools are listed alongside them with expected usage hours, and trades define the types of worker a task calls for, each with an hourly rate and required qualifications.
How are recurring equipment failures analyzed?
Maintenance Orders close against structured Closing Codes covering the problem, its cause, the failure, and the action taken. Because the same codes are used across every asset, recurring failures can be identified and compared rather than being buried in free-text notes, and the full maintenance history of each asset remains available alongside them.
Can maintenance tasks be completed on a mobile device?
Yes. The Plant Maintenance Mobile app is accessible from any mobile device or tablet. Maintenance operators can view their assigned orders, record meter readings and findings, update task statuses, and add photographic attachments all on site.
Can maintenance documentation support regulatory audits?
Plant Maintenance creates structured digital records of all maintenance activities, including inspection results, findings, and completed tasks. Inspection results can be reviewed and given a confidence rating of valid, invalid, or discontinuity. These records are accessible within SAP Business One and can support documentation requirements in regulated manufacturing environments.
