Retail, production, and export, all running on one connected system

Founded in 1986, Amazing Oriental is now the largest Asian supermarket chain in the Netherlands, with 25 stores and more than 10,000 authentic Asian products sourced from ten countries. Behind the stores is Amazing Daily Meals, the company's food manufacturing division, producing fresh and frozen Asian meals and snacks for its own supermarkets and in-store restaurants as well as caterers and retailers across Europe.

The catalyst for change

Every Amazing Oriental store has its own in-store restaurant and food corner, and behind that, a production kitchen making bapao, other Indonesian snacks, and Chinese-style roast meats. As that side of the business grew, it was still running without a dedicated production system or an ERP behind it.

That changed in April 2019, when Amazing Oriental set out to solve a warehouse and logistics problem and realized it needed a proper ERP underneath it. The search led to SAP Business One and to Logres, an SAP Business One implementation partner. Logres looked at the whole operation and recognized that Amazing Oriental was not only a retail business but also a manufacturer, and introduced CompuTec ProcessForce to give it real production functionality rather than just retail inventory.

The solution

Amazing Daily Meals, Amazing Oriental's central kitchen, produces the food sold in its in-store restaurants and through retail, using CompuTec ProcessForce and CompuTec PDC to run that production end to end:

  • CompuTec ProcessForce gives the kitchen the tools to create Manufacturing Orders for the semi-finished products, fillings and sauces, that go into each snack or dish, and to consolidate made-to-order and made-to-stock production, planning a few larger batches instead of many small ones, then splitting the output into fresh or deep-frozen finished product per order.
  • CompuTec PDC gives the shop floor the tools to run each Manufacturing Order through ingredient preparation, deliver the exact recipe to the cooks, and track the machines and resources used all the way through to packing.
  • The same SAP Business One environment connects retail, the central kitchen, and Amazing Oriental's distribution center, so an order placed in a store or by an export customer flows straight through to production and delivery.

The results

Everything is integrated, everything is very seamless, from the moment an order is placed by a customer, right through to invoicing. It saves us a lot of administrative work.
Patricia Sjauw-Eik, Chief Operating Officer, Oriental Holding Europe

An order now flows from placement through production, delivery, and invoicing without being re-entered at each step. One Sales Order automatically becomes the corresponding document for the next entity, cutting out a lot of administrative work.

Because Amazing Oriental sells directly to end consumers through its supermarkets and in-store restaurants, batch, allergen, and ingredient information matters. CompuTec PDC and SAP Business One let the team register every movement in production and know exactly what went into each product, and CompuTec Labels prints the batch and quality-control labels that travel with that stock internally, pulling the data straight from the SAP Business One database.

Amazing Oriental is not only a retailer. It is also one of the biggest exporters of Asian food to Europe, and production, retail, and export now run on one connected system.

Key outcomes:

  • A seamless order-to-invoice flow, with no repeated data entry between systems
  • Full traceability of batches, allergens, and ingredients
  • Accurate, compliant labeling for every batch of stock
  • Retail, production, and export all running on one connected system
  • Less administrative work across the business
