Depending on the production process or the materials being used or produced, a single Manufacturing Order can produce multiple products, either during the process or at the end of it. Industry examples include:

  • A single mold produces a left-hand and a right-hand part (plastic injection molding)
  • The extruded material creates flash (plastic extrusion process)
  • Cutting onions creates slices and skins (fresh foods)
  • Pouring molten metal produces steel bars and slag (milling products)
  • Processing whole chickens creates chicken wings, thighs, breasts, etc. (food processing)
  • Grading wheat products creates grades A, B, and C (food packaging)

This type of ERP functionality is sometimes called “V”-shaped bills, i.e. many items can be made from a single material or a few materials, also known as a “disassembly” bill of materials.

CompuTec ProcessForce manages this type of production by:

  • Allowing the user to define co-products, by-products, and scrap within the product structure
  • Linking the production outputs to specific manufacturing processes (operations)
  • Recording each as a separate transaction within the Manufacturing Order (in-process) or as a single transaction
  • Calculating costs for all material types
